Working from Berlin for a London Agency: What 2+ Years Remote Have Taught Me
If someone had told me when I was younger that one day I’d be part of a London-based creative agency while working remotely from Berlin, she probably would have laughed. And yet here I am, 2+ years as a Social Media Manager at Wilderness, supporting one of our amazing Entertainment clients and still sometimes pinching myself. I honestly call myself extremely lucky to be part of such a kind, talented, and supportive team. My younger self wouldn’t have believed that this would one day be my day-to-day life.
Remote work has changed so much for me. I live a bit outside Berlin, so having the flexibility to skip a daily commute has been a game-changer. What would’ve been hours spent on public transport now turns into slow mornings, matcha in hand, and a quiet space where I can actually think. I’ve realised over time: I work best in calm, distraction-free environments - and remote work gives me just that.
I also love the everyday little things: mid-morning chats with my flat mate in the kitchen, working from my favorite sunny corner at home, or just having a break on my balcony. Not to mention the cherry on top: Wilderness gives us the opportunity to work from anywhere for 30 days a year, a perk that has added so much freedom to my lifestyle.
But I’ll be honest: remote work isn’t always as dreamy as it sounds. The longer I do it, the more I notice how easy it is to get very comfy in your own little bubble. Which is great until it feels lonely. You start missing the spontaneous “coffee break” conversations and those unplanned moments where ideas just click. Real connections can be harder to come by through screens and that’s why I genuinely love every chance I get to visit our client or spend time with the team in London. Whether it’s brainstorming in person, sharing a laugh over lunch - it’s in those moments that I feel re-energized and part of something bigger than just my laptop screen.
Even with the ups and downs, I can say: the love I have for this way of working still outweighs the tough parts. I’ve grown so much - personally and professionally - and I’m thankful every day for the flexibility and freedom this setup gives me. In the end I think the key is checking in with yourself, being honest about what you need, and creating a routine that supports the kind of life you want. And right now, this is exactly where I want to be.
